was born of necessity.
Like everyone else, we were continuously
bombarded by unwanted, unsolicited, and often vulgar spam.
It got to the point that we received much more spam than we
did real mail. Time is money in business and receiving all
this unwanted email was costing us time.
As a solution, we developed an in-house
spam filter for our mail server. It detected incoming spam
and would "hang up" on it before the spammer was
even able to deliver it to our server. As we improved our
filters the amount of spam decreased significantly
while our mail logs showed all the unwanted spam we were successfully
avoiding.
Then, one of us had the idea of making
the service available to the public. We were already spending
time improving our filters, but why invest time in a filter
that was only benefiting our company? It made sense to offer
the service to the public in an attempt to reduce spam for
others, too.
