- How do I configure my email program to work with PrismEmail?
The exact method depends on your email program, but all you need to do is change the "POP3
server" to point to PrismEmail.com and change the "POP3 account name" to your PrismEmail
username. You will find some instructions of configuring commonly used email programs
on the support page.
- How can I report a message as spam?
Every email that you receive through PrismEmail will have a line in the email headers that
reads something like:
If a spam email gets through PrismEmail to your email program, just click on the link to
report it as spam. This will allow us to improve our filters and, if you are using Bayesian
filtering, will also help your Bayesian filter "learn" what is good and bad email. Please
note that you must report spam within 48 hours of downloading it from PrismEmail. Thereafter,
messages are purged from our system and can't be reported as spam.
- I don't see the "spam report" link in the email headers?
Many email programs will allow you to easily see "all headers" of emails you receive.
In these cases the spam report link should always be visible to you. However, programs
such as Microsoft's Outlook and Outlook Express intentionally hide this information from
the user and only show you headers such as "from," "to," "subject," and "date." In these
cases it is a little more work to see all the headers including the spam report line.
If you are using Microsoft Outlook Express follow these instructions to report spam:
- Click the spam to view it normally.
- Click the "File" menu, then click the "Properties" option. A new window will open.
- Click the "Details" tab which will show you the full email headers.
- You will find the "report spam" link at the very bottom of the headers.
- Copy the http:// link from that line and paste it into your browser.
If you are using Microsoft Outlook follow these instructions to report spam:
- Click the spam to view it normally.
- Right-click the message and a pop-up menu will appear. Select "Options" at th bottom of the menu.
- You will see the full email headers at the bottom of the screen where it says
"Internet Headers".
- You will find the "report spam" link at the very bottom of the headers.
- Copy the http:// link from that line and paste it into your browser.
The good news is that if you use Bayesian filtering you will find that it is necessary
to report spam less and less as time goes on.
- PrismEmail blocked a message that isn't spam. How can I get it?
Although it should happen only infrequently, it is possible that PrismEmail will occasionally
block a message that isn't spam. If this happens there are two ways to retrieve the message:
- Logon to your PrismEmail account at this website. Click on the link "Manage Mail." You
will be shown a list of all the emails that have been blocked over the last couple of days.
Select the message that you would like to retrieve and click on the button at the bottom
of the screen that reads "Flag Selected Messages for Download." The next time you download
email with your email program the email in question will be downloaded.
- Nightly Spam Report. Once per night you will receive a "spam report" that lists
all the emails that have been blocked in the last 24 hours. If you see a message in this
report that is legitimate email you can click on the "Download" link in that email message
which will instruct PrismEmail to release that message. The next time you check your email
the email in question will be downloaded.
We suggest that you review the spam report each day to look for any legitimate email that
may have been blocked as spam. This is especially important when you first start using
PrismEmail.
